Whether in the floor planning stage of a new home or an existing room, laying out space might feel daunting but with a few important tips, it can become easier.

Designing a space that is both functional and inviting is a delicate balancing act. A poorly laid out room can end up with dead space and interrupted flow.

Space Plan like a Pro

There are a few problems that when working on a floor plan will inevitably come up. Here are my invaluable tips for solving those issues:

Problem: Dead Space 

Large rooms often suffer from ring-around-the-room furniture, where everything is pushed against the walls, leaving voids.

The Fix: Use Creative Seating Groups.

Don't be afraid to pull furniture away from the edges. A small set of lounge chairs with a side table or a small library nook in an unused corner can turn dead space into a purposeful feature.

Problem: The Cut-Through 

One of the hardest layouts to solve is a room that doubles as a hallway. If people have to walk directly through a seating area to get to the next room, the space never feels truly restful.

The Fix: Work With The Floor Plan

Instead of fighting the foot traffic, design your seating groups around the flow. Use the natural path of travel as a border rather than an obstacle. By segmenting the room into smaller, intentional areas, you turn a high-traffic area into a series of cozy destinations.
