Building Design for Branding

Building design is very important for branding. With all of the boring gray multifamily buildings being built in downtowns from Denver to Colorado Springs, it’s easy for developers to build something that stands out thus getting major ROI.
Many business owners think of branding as logos, style, and color palettes. But for physical businesses, building and interior design is the ultimate brand touchpoint. It’s the difference between a customer just making a quick fungible purchase and someone going out of their way to seek out and pay more for a product.
Here is how I think about designing for brands:
1. The "First Impression" starts at the curb
You have a few seconds to make a first impression; a well-designed place does that work for you! It is important to have a place that draws people to want to open the door.
2. Creating a Place to be Shared
Iconic elements like an elegant facade, a sculptural staircase, or well-selected furniture encourage visitors to share your brand organically. Your building becomes a landmark.
Over the past decade there has been a push to create viral spaces. Bright colors, fake plant walls, neon light text. It’s an easy trap to fall into but it has become tired and cheapens a brand. Look at doing things that have more staying power.
3. Brand Alignment
A space designed with intentionality reinforces the company brand and culture. When the environment reflects the mission, the mission becomes easier to achieve. Using specific materials and a focus on the floor plan layout does most of the work conveying the brand to people so it is important to think of your brand right from the beginning.
